No one is surprised anymore to discover that we humans can and do take out loans. This temporary financial assistance to those in financial need has become quite common. And while some of us take out loans exclusively at our discretion, others overreach themselves. They take it up with big eyes and to their own misery.
So these days, the debt of us Czechs keeps growing. And it is becoming increasingly typical that young people under the age of 24 are unable to repay their debts. That number has increased by a quarter from a year ago.
Despite the fact that fewer Czechs are in debt, nominal debt is increasing. Borrowing and debt have become increasingly larger. At the end of the first half of this year, the total debt amounted to SEK 3.4 trillion. Of this, SEK 588 billion is short-term debt, and each person who owes SEK 262,600 must pay back SEK 262,600.44]
Consumer loans are borrowed primarily by those aged 45 to 54, but the highest per capita borrowing is by those aged 35 to 44, and the youngest people experiencing the greatest problems are those under the age of 24. In total, they have not repaid more than 500 million kroner, even if they are only a quarter of a year late, and the average per sinner is 118,000 kroner.
One in eight borrowers under the age of 24 has not repaid their loans properly. This may not be because they simply don\’t have the money, but because they forget to repay the loan. Another problem is that young people borrow unnecessarily as they are encouraged to do. In this regard, while there is considerable unnecessary borrowing, young people are borrowing less meaningfully and taking out fewer mortgages
We are told we are doing quite well. Debt-ridden youth may be a problem, but other than that we are said to be pretty much in debt and in default as a society. I just don\’t know whether to be happy or not.
